Aster Flower Knitting Stitch
This stitch create a very interesting effect - knit texture looks a lot like aster flower. You can use different colours for the different points of the flower and any size you like. The aster knitting stitch is great for baby girl sweaters. It makes a nice soft not-too-bulky and nice-looking fabric
Skill: Intermediate
Knitting instructions:
- Aster stitch: slip 5 sts to right-hand needle dropping extra loops, slip these 5 sts back to left- hand needle, (purl 1, yarn over, purl 1, yarn over , purl 1) into all 5 sts together.
- Half aster : slip 3 sts to right-hand needle dropping extra loops, slip these 3 sts back to left- hand needle, (purl 1, yarn over, purl 1) into all 3 sts together.
With color A, cast on multiple of 6 sts + 1. Repeat the pattern between the arrows as many times as you like.
Pattern instructions:
Row 1 (Wrong side): With color A, knit all sts
Row 2: (Right side): With color B, * slip 1, knit 5, wrapping yarn twice around needle for each knit stitch; repeat from * to last st, slip 1.
Row 3: With color B, * slip 1, aster stitch; repeat from * to last st, slip 1
Row 4: With color A, knit 1 * knit 5, insert left hand needle down through the color B loose strand below next st, knit this strand together with next st on needle; repeat from * to last 6 sts, knit 6.
Row 5: With color A, knit all sts.
Row 6: With color B, knit 3, wrapping yarn twice around needle for each knit stitch, * slip 1, knit 5, wrapping yarn twice around needle for each knit stitch; repeat from * to last 4 sts, slip 1, knit 3, wrapping yarn twice around needle for each knit stitch.
Row 7: With color B, half aster, * slip 1, aster stitch; repeat from * to last 4 sts, slip 1, half aster.
Row 8: With color A, knit 3, * insert left hand needle down through the color B loose strand below next st, knit this strand together with next st on needle, knit 5; repeat * to last 4 sts, insert left hand needle down through the color B loose strand below next st, knit this strand together with next st on needle, knit 3
Row 9: With color A, knit all sts.
Repeat rows 2-9 until you have reached your desired length.
