This is a really nifty little pattern for making a neat bobble-shell edging. I created it to finish off the top and bottom edges of my crochet Wrist Warmers, but it could be used along any edge that needs a neat little finishing touch.

Please note that this bobble shell edging is worked from the Wrong Side.

Stitches used ::

sl st (slip stitch) :: insert hook, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch, then through the loop on your hook.

Dc (Double Crochet) :: insert hook through stitch, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch (two loops on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops on hook. (NB this is equivalent to US sc stitch)

Tr :: yarn over, insert hook through stitch, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch (three loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two loops on hook (two loops left on hook), yarn over and pull through remaining two loops. (NB this is equivalent to US dc stitch)

Bobble-shell Cluster :: yarn over, insert hook through stitch, yarn over, pull loop back through stitch (three loops on hook), Yarn over and pull through two loops in hook (two loops left on hook). Yarn over, insert hook through same stitch, yarn over, pull loop back through stitch (four loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all four loops.

The edging is worked in two rows. For Row 1, make sure you have the Right Side of your work facing you. Join in your edging yarn and draw a loop through the first stitch to begin.

Row 1 :: Chain 2, and work a row of UK Double Crochet (US Single Crochet), as pictured above.

Now turn your work so that the Wrong Side is now facing you.

Row 2 :: Chain 3, then 1 Tr into the first stitch. Sl st into the next stitch.

**Into the next stitch, work a Bobble-shell cluster, as follows ::

[yarn over, insert hook through stitch, yarn over, pull loop back through stitch (three loops on hook), Yarn over and pull through two loops in hook (two loops left on hook). Yarn over, insert hook through same stitch, yarn over, pull loop back through stitch (four loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all four loops,  as in two pictures above].

Sl st into next stitch.**

Repeat between ** until you reach the end of the row and fasten off.
