2 - 5" X 8" pieces of cotton fabric in patterns of your choice
8" X ½" strip of felt
3 small buttons
1 small snap
Pencil, pins, scissors, pinking shears, needle, thread
Sewing machine, iron
Optional - scallop-edged pinking shears
MAKING THE DRESS:
Open pattern in Acrobat Reader and print. Cut out dress pattern.
Select your fabrics. Make sure neither one is too transparent and allows the other to show through. These are the two that I chose. Love those dotty dots!
Place pieces of fabrics right side together and draw around dress pattern on back of one piece.
Pin, and take to your sewing machine.
Using your machine, stitch along the line, leaving an opening in the bottom hem for turning. Unpin, trim outer curves with pinking shears, clip corners and inner curves with small scissors, leaving tabs at opening.
This is when I use my smaller hemostat, it makes turning a breeze. You just insert the hemostat into the opening, grab a corner and wriggle it through.
Fold in the tabs at the opening, and make sure that every seam has been teased all the way out before pressing. I have a variety of "tools" I use to do this. I don't use the sharp end of the skewer, as it will poke a hole in your fabric. For the corners I use an old dull knitting needle. Once it is the proper shape, press, then hand sew opening closed with small hidden stitches.
Next we're going to attach the felt yoke. Choose a color for your felt that looks nice with both your fabrics. I gave mine a decorative edge with my scallop pinking shears, but you could leave it straight or use regular pinking shears.
Center the felt strip on one side of your dress, with the top edges aligned, and pin.
Put dress onto front of bunny.
Turn bunny over and pin one side of yoke, aligning top edges.
Pin other side, then trim excess felt to a half inch or so.
Remove dress from bunny, this is what you should see.
And this is how the other side looks.
Hand-stitch the yoke onto the dress close to the top edge, or you could run it through your machine if you prefer. Then neatly trim excess felt to line up with sides.
Attach one button in the middle of the side with the yoke with embroidery thread.
And two buttons on the side without the yoke.
I simply tied them off so the threads are hidden under the yoke.
All that's left is sewing on the snap...
And you're done!
