Fabric Roses Revisited
1. Cut some squares- these are 6"- It's a good idea to practice until you feel comfortable with muslin or scrap fabric.
2. Make 3 accordion type folds in the same direction and iron down to hold. This might feel awkward at first- just try.
3. Sew then down keeping a 1/4" seam allowance. Do one right after another like a kite tail.

4. Then sew down the other side.
5. Cut apart.
6. Now turn it and fold again 3 times in the opposite direction- repeat ironing and pinning if necessary.

7. Stitch one side and then the other.

8. Cut apart and then iron.

9. Push a finger up through the back of folded fabric until it looks like a balloon.
10. Take a pinch in the center, pull up and twist.
11. Push down.
12. Follow with iron to keep in shape.

13. Fold corners under and it should go into a round shape.

Sew these roses on to a doll quilt or whatever you wish to embellish.

Cut shape, slash center of one side, stitch, turn and press.

The opening can go against the back of the flower so that it is hidden.

It looks like a rose because your eye wants to make the shape into something recognizable and familiar.
The more you put together the better you will become.
They also need to be tacked down in the folds to hold the shape.

Directions for Making Fold and Twist Fabric Roses
[показать]Step 1: Cut fabric in to 5" squares and then fold 3 pleats towards yourself.
Iron in place and pin on each side.
[показать]This feels kind of awkward at first but keep practicing the fold so that it is even. Each pleat is about 1/2" inch.
[показать]Step 2: Stitch with matching thread on each side using a 1/4" seam. I sew them one right after the other, and then cut them apart.
[показать]I bought the ergonomic rotary cutter at the last quilt show I went to and really like it.
[показать]Step 3: Fold 3 pleats in the other direction and iron and pin.
[показать]You must iron each step down to help hold it and make sharp pleats.
[показать]Step 4: Sew each side down being careful not to let fold get caught in seam.
[показать]Step 5: This is the fun part- while holding the fabric in one hand, use your finger to push up and make a bubble or balloon.
Fold under the squared off points on the bottom.
Place the puff on the palm of one hand and gently pinch the top center and twist in a smooth motion (either direction) until you can't twist any further and push down. Then quickly iron down with a hot iron to hold rose in shape.
[показать]I can't take a picture of twisting it and hold the camera at the same time but remember practice makes perfect and you may need to try it a few times before you get it!
