8 DRAWINGS OF ARTISTS WITH ALZHEIMER, WHICH SHOWS THE WHOLE PROCESS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE DISEASE

This disease is seriously studied for more than 100 years, but there is still no complete understanding of what leads to its appearance and how to cure it. But not so long ago, scientists drew attention to the connection between creativity and the development of Alzheimer's disease.

P The examples of how the disease affects the creativity of man. It is the pictures and other works of patients that help doctors in the search for methods of treating this form of dementia. At the end of the article, there is a small test that helps with early diagnosis of different types of dementia.

Early work of William Athermolen - the most famous artist who suffered from Alzheimer's disease

Self-portraits of William, made in the mid-1990s, when the artist was diagnosed

The last work done by William a few years before his death

The artist devoted his life to attracting the attention of society and science to the problems of people with dementia. Thanks to the drawings of William and the work of other artists, scientists have learned to predict the possible development of the disease in 30-40 years.

Willem de Kooning's paintings: before and after diagnosis

The artist worked in the style of abstract expressionism. In 2006, his picture from the series "Women", made shortly before the diagnosis, was sold for $ 137.5 million and was ranked third among the most expensive works of art in history.

Works by Hilda Gorenstein before and after diagnosis. She became the first patient to be helped by art therapy

American artist Hilda Gorenstein after the diagnosis suffered from depression and did not communicate with people until she decided to paint again. Art therapy improved Hilda's condition. Her psychotherapist invited young artists to work with Hilda and other patients.

So the Hilgos foundation was born - an organization that develops this therapy and helps patients use drawing as a means that slows the development of the disease and helps patients to again socialize.

Drawings of people to whom creativity helps to regain memory and control over emotions

Drawing, modeling, playing music, playing chess, knitting - these exercises become a therapy that helps to improve the memory of patients, express themselves, communicate, live a more fulfilling life, return their personality. And this is a necessary part of drug treatment.

Studies of how patients draw, helped to develop a series of tests for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Bonus: a test with a clock to check the work of the brain

The task is simple: draw a clock. As practice has shown, drawings of people with certain diagnoses are similar to each other.
