Assembly
Body
Join pieces using sl st with RS together. Join the 4 back pieces with foundation ch at bottom and points at top. Working from row 9 to row 9 of assembled back, join the top piece across top of back piece. Working from row 1 to row 8 of assembled back, join foundation ch edge of side piece, then join side of side piece to side of top, ending on last row of top edge to top.
Brim
Using template, cut brim support out of plastic canvas and insert it into brim. Enclose using sl st.
Turn hat inside out and sl st brim to hat, keeping close to edge of brim.
Inner Band
Fit inside lower edge of hat. Starting at the back, sc hat to headband, skipping every other st of hat, working every st across brim, then skipping every other st of hat to end. Fasten off. Sew ends of band together.
Finishing
Slip beg tail through to WS of button tog with end tail. Using tails, sew to top of cap where 4 points of back pieces meet. Weave in ends.
