Mitsuuji Receiving Divine Assistance.

An image of the stranded young Mitsuuji perched on a rock as water rushes past in torrents. Wringing the water from his rope patterned kimono, he looks up to see divine assistance appearing above the clouds.
The mighty Buddhist deity Fudo Myoo is flanked by his two heavenly assistants, Seitaka at left and Kongara at right. As flames swirl around his head, Fudo Myoo stares out at him, clutching a sword to strike down non-believers and a rope to bind them.
Seitaka carries a large club and the lovely Kongara holds an oversize lotus blossom, both with sashes fluttering in the sky around them.
A fantastic scene from the play "Genji Moyo furisode hinagata," based on the novel "A Fake Murasaki's Country Genji," a parody of the famous "Tale of Genji" with Mitsuuji as the rustic hero. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Mitsuuji, Ichikawa Kuzo II as Seitaka, Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Fudo Myoo, and Bando Shuka I as Kongara.
