Кораллы с древнейших времен использовались для изготовления украшений – бусы со вставками из кораллов розового цвета встречаются в захоронениях и на местах стоянок времен палеолита. Древние греки считали коралл символом счастья и бессмертия. Кораллу приписывались свойства защиты от сглаза, отравлений и подагры.




Кораллы Средиземного и Красного морей, обработанные итальянскими мастерами, достигли самых дальних стран и известны во многих культурах.
