Ole Salomonsen caught these views of Aurora Borealis in Finland, Sweden and Norway during Autumn and Winter 2011-2012. This is his second time-lapse movie, but the overhead shots are near real-time. Some scenes show the background stars whirling across the sky.These scenes took hours, with slow-moving aurora. Time-lapse makes it look fast. Other scenes show the stars barely moving. These scenes took minutes and almost represent real-time motion.

For people who never see the Aurora this is just about the best video presentation of them that I have ever seen. Ole's work is amazing and breathtakingly beautiful. For people who CAN see the Aurora, I hope you'll take a moment now and then to appreciate them. We tend to take the view for granted sometimes.
