MATERIALS

PATTERN STITCHES
Knit stitch
Work with reduced needles (see instructions) of the back and front)

GAUGES
10x10 cm. work in knitted st. with knitting needles no. 4 = 20 sts. and 23 rows
10x10 cm. work in knitted st. with knitting needles no. 41/2 = 16 sts. and 22 rows

WORKING INSTRUCTIONS
Back: work horizontally with reduced needles. With knitting needles no. 41/2 cast on 67 (62-72) sts. and work in knitted st. as follows: * work 3 rows over all the sts., work the next 2 rows only over the first 47 sts. and leave the other stitches standing, work the next 2 rows over all the 67 (62-72) sts., work the next 2 rows only over the first 37 sts. and leave the other stitches standing, work the next row over all the 67 (62-72) sts. *, rep. from * to * to the end of work. When work measures 104 (96-112) cm. [measured on the longest side, equal to 63 (58-68) cm. measured on the shortest side] cross off all the sts.
Front: work like the back.
Right cup: with knitting needles no. 4 cast on 35 (30-40) sts. and work in knitted st,. incr. 4 sts. spaced evenly over row 1. After 4 rows, decr. rightwise, to shape the neckline, inside 2 sts., 1 st. every 2 rows 19 (17-21) times and leftwise, inside 2 sts., 1 st. every 2 rows 4 times, 1 st. every 6 rows once, work 14 rows without decr. then decr. again 1 st. every 2 rows 7 (6-8) times (to decr. rightwise slip 1 k1, pass slipped st. over, to decr. leftwise work k2 tog.). At the same time, in row 33 decr. another 2 sts. spaced evenly. When work measures 18 (17-19) cm. knit up the 2 centre sts. tog. and cont. for 35 (33-37) cm over the rem. stitches of the shoulder pad. Cross off all the sts.
Left cup: work to match the right cup.

MAKE UP AND FINISH
Sew up the sides. Sew the short sides of the elastic closing it with a loop. Fold on back the first 7 sts. on the upper border of the vest, braid in the elastic and sew the elastic to the inside of the edge. Sew up the bottom edge of the cups at the centre of the front of the vest, overlapping them at the centre for a length of 5 cm working in two 1 cm. pleats on the bottom edge of each cup: the first at 4 cm. from the side and the second at 2.5 cm. from the other.
