Hitchhikers guide is fun. You'll enjoy it. Half of these books are in my netflix queue as movies :) Oh and i've wanted to read Wuthering Heights ever since Bella and Edward (Twilight) discussed it in the book.

good stuff here. what criteria is your list based on?
CrimeanGurl 07-01-2010-22:03 удалить
jaime_et_jexiste, some of these books are those that I've wanted to read for a while but never did (Gone With the Wind, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Vanity Fair, etc.); others are good old classics, and I like most of the things that belong to this category; the rest are the titles that are very highly rated by readers on Amazon and other sites but that I've become familiar with only after coming to the US, so I'm just curious.

Girl_On_E, I try to never watch movies based on books I might be interested in reading because I completely lose interest if I do so...this is the reason, I'll probably never be able to make myself read "the Reader", "Atonement", "Girl, Interrupted" and some other titles that are supposed to be pretty good. Up until recently, I've never been interested in "Wuthering Heights", but in the last few months this title has been popping out so often, for some reason, that I got really intrigued :))

MiaGellar, Oh no i am not implying you should watch movies based on those books. I NEVER watch a movie first , then the book. It's just there are certain books that i don't know that i will get to/want to get to or will get through, but i want to see the movie, because mot of them are considered classics. I can't stand watching movies before i read the book. I gave up the idea of readingWuthering Heights, because i heard it's extremely montone and boring, so i figured i'd watch the movie, because i love period pieces.

few of these books I read in their russian versions, and especially loved Kesey's “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”...I think your list will make me check it in english :) Besides, you also wrote here some stuff I've always wanted to read.. hope, I'll overcome my laziness and do so in 2010 ;)

Исходное сообщение MiaGellar I'll probably never be able to make myself read ..."Atonement"...
I hope you make an exception- it's such a rich, deep and beautiful read. Another would be "The Painted Veil," but anything by S.Maugham is very entertaining and well-written.

"Грозовой перевал" Е. Бронте читала недавно, на русском. В целом, мне понравилось. Временами было даже страшно. У меня эта книга вообще столько разных чувств вызвала. Мне нравятся такие книги, где описываются несколько поколениий персонажей.

-Baileys-, при выборе книг я обычно сначала вспоминаю какие-нибудь названия, которые часто мне встречались...затем иду на amazon и смотрю отзывы...если рейтинг книги меньше чем 4.5 звездочек, то я, чаще всего, откладываю ее на потом unless it is an important classics or something that I am really interested in. :))
