Solar energy is very popular in Italy because of hight fuel and energy prices and governmental support. If to speak in easy terms, there is a different tarifs for different types of power generators. It is also depends of land usage. For example, integrated in buildings solar power station will be earn more money than same-sized but installed in field. I saw a lot of solar power stations with different power capacity.
For example this one. Photovoltaic modules' capacity is equal 250 W here. Total capacity of solar power station is about 500 - 750 kW or something like this.
This is more big station with same modules. Visible part of power station has a power capacity about 2 MW. I guess this tower of power line and tree near it create some mismatch loss in photovoltaic array, especially at winter morning time.
This is another type of solar energy usage. This roof creates a shadow for car parking and also it generates electricity. I suppose single modele has about 80-100 W power capacity and one roof has about 0,8 kWe.
