ROMANOV Grand Duke CONSTANTIN Konstantinovich of RUSSIA
Offered in this auction is a recreated cabinet style card showing portrait of Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich of Russia , grandson of Russian Emperor Nicholas I , a poet and playwright and an actor . He is best known by his pen name, "KR". Shown with his wife, Grand Duchess Elizaveta Mavrikievna, and children.
The fourth child of the Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich of Russia and his wife Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg, KR was born in the Constantine Palace, Strelna . His eldest sister Grand Duchess Olga, married King George I of the Hellenes in 1867. In 1884 in Saint Petersburg he married Princess Elisabeth of Saxe-Altenburg, his second cousin. Upon her marriage, Elisabeth became the Grand Duchess Elizaveta Mavrikievna. She was known within the family as "Mavra."
