LOS ANGELES - He’s played to sold-out venues and rocked all over the world, but getting ready for the birth of his child with girlfriend Nicole Richie has given Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden a new high.

“Having a baby is the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me, and to us,” the spiky-haired rocker told People.

Now that his band has wrapped up a tour of Australia, the rocker and the former “Simple Life” star are gearing up their love nest for the arrival of a baby, who is due in January.

“We’re just getting home, getting settled in L.A. and getting ready,” Madden said.

In fact, prepping for the Richie-Madden baby has been nothing but joy for the couple, who despite reports, are still happily together.

“(We’re) really happy,” he noted. “Everything else that the others have printed has been completely false.”

The lovers even managed to go on a romantic “great little getaway,” in Thailand, Madden told People.

“We had a great time,” he said of the trip.

Earlier this week, Nicole Richie issued a statement to “Access Hollywood,” denying recent tabloid rumors that she was spotted smoking in New York City while pregnant.
