Imagine not being at all familiar with Dali's work, then encountering this picture as the first one you'd ever seen by the artist! I dare say you might respond, thanks but no thanks -- I'll take a nice Renoir, thank you very much!

"Child Eating a Rat" is also known as "Freud's Perverse Polymorph." Either way, it's a little disgusting. But "beautiful" from the pure sense that Surrealism was, in part, about shocking the conscience, at least at times. And Dali could do that so well!
