100 Years of Bra-ittude
This week the Independent celebrated 100 years since Vogue introduced the revolutionary ‘brassiere’. Combing through the various eras since the bra first took off (or put on, actually), I’ve found it interesting to see how the bra has changed with the times. From starting life as a near-corseted shape repressor, to artillery-shaped economy during WWII, to languishing at the bottom of a burning bin in the 60s, to the perky uplift of the Wonderbra in the 70s, to the sheer lacy luxury device of today – the bra has stood by us, faithfully. Forget diamonds, ladies! That pink strappy thing holding you up/in/out is your real best friend.
