their spiny backs protect them
from any enemy
so, when attacked, they stay in place
there is no need to flee
they curl up in a little ball
they do this quite a lot
a clever fox can eat them
but mostly they cannot
no other tiny beasts
can stay put when they please
except for these
they can risk
what no-one else can risk
and get away with this

and places in between
they snuffle round in gardens
so keep your garden clean
they prey on nasry insects
and butcher slimy frogs
there's nothing more poetic
than a hedgehod in the fog
no other tiny beasts
can snuffle when they please
except for these

hedgehods are prickly
and a lot smaller than camels
but they feed their young with milk
which means they are mammals
though pandas and dachshunds
may be accepted beauties
of all the living things on earth
the hedgehog is the cutest
