I assume they use much less Talisker in the composition now as the whisky is way much less peaty. In addition the manufacturers seemed to have used older whiskies within the blend earlier as Black Label all the time felt like as if it have been more matured than 12 years.
But now the corporate have Green Label which is 15 years old vatted malt with none grain whisky in the mix. I assume it is the reason more experienced malts now go to the Green Label. However good whisky Black Label can be it is nonetheless distiguishable that it is not exactly what it was once.
The blenders have been very intelligent; there are all the distinctive notes I anticipate from this whisky, the mouthfeel is excellent, the color and legs are the same. But the guts has been ripped out of it. I am consuming this whisky since 10 years however I am feeling very disenchanted with the present batch of black label. It's lacking the great romance of Talisker and Caol Ila which I enjoyed lots. Smoke character is lowered and I suppose content of Speyside malt n grain is increased significantly. I don't perceive why that is so well-liked.
For worth I think it is not well balanced, and neither does it have much character. Spend a bit more and get inexperienced label or if you like a bit of smoke and peat go for double black. On the nostril it is peaty, peppery and citrusy.
On the palate rich with oaky, peaty, citrusy and spicy nuances. Finish is lengthy with peaty, fruity and caramel notes. It is one of the greatest 12 yr old blended whiskies on the earth and my private favourite. However it doesn't odor and taste because it used be around 10 to 15 years in the past.
