Картина рассказывает о трудной доле девятилетнего мальчика Андрея, чье детство омрачено отсутствием родительской любви и заботы. Однажды в шторм мальчик находит на берегу мертвую собаку и принимает ее за Чупакабру - мифическое существо, которое, как считают в народе, нападает на домашних животных и питается их кровью. Андрей решает, что найденный им зверь обладает волшебной силой и сможет подарить ему такую жизнь, о которой он мечтает.
