In the Golden Dawn system the Lesser Hexagrams are forms adapted from the
Greater Key of Solomon in order to conjure particular beings in the
Enochian
system. They are taught in the outer in order to prepare the magician for
the work of Enochian, which in A.'.A.'. as in the GD is the work of the
adept. They are technically synthetic but serve to allow the formulation of

24 distinct forms invoking and hence by reversal also 24 distinct banishing

forms (the so-called solar form being merely compilation of all the other
forms, since the solar point of the hexagram is only orbited and never
crossed). There are used to conjure the 24 Seniors in Enochian, which are
the 24 Elders of the Apocalypse. Crowley gives them in Liber O because this

text is the reduction of the GD system to its bare essentials. They are
also
placed in a directionally different sequence in order to express an
elevation on the planes. With the LPR they introduce the magician to the
5=6
formula in its most basic formulation, symbolizing the uniting of the
Microcosm (pentagram) with the Macrocosm (hexagram), cf. Levi's diagram and

ancillary illustrations. The elemental pentagrams are attributed to the
assignment of the Watchtowers in the Reformed arrangement whereas the
elemental hexagrams are assigned to the celestial arrangment of the
Cardinal
signs (assuming a vernal equinoctial node in Aries). There are more details

than this but these are the premises from which the rest of the related GD

conjuring formulae are related (Libri 24, 84, 418, Temple of Solomon
etc.).
