Mingle Media TV was excited to cover the 2nd Annual Thirst Project Gala held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills hosted by Chyler Leigh J.R. Bourne on June 28, 2011. The evening honored Michael Welch, "Twilight" as the recipient of The Pioneering Spirit Award for his extraordinary efforts to raise the profile of the global water crisis and helping provide clean, safe drinking water to thousands of people. Gala was also sponsored by the Follett Higher Education Group.

The Thirst Project is founded by CEO President Seth Maxwell. Over 1.1 Billion people do not have access to safe, clean drinking water and proper sanitization. The Thirst Project is a nonprofit organization raising awareness of and bringing solutions to the clean water crisis through Education Outreach Programs, that educate, equip and empower communities in need of water by drilling wells. By helping the communities' access water, The Thirst Project changes the very basic fabric of these communities: decreasing illness, increasing education, extending life expectancy. Ready to meet Jackson Avery’s mom?

Actor-director Debbie Allen has been cast in the upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy, playing Catherine Avery. The move brings Allen out from behind the camera on Grey’s, where she’s previously directed two episodes of the show (not entirely unlike how Eric Stolz directed an episode of Private Practice before appearing in the series).

Allen has a slew of TV directing credits to her name (Everybody Hates Chris, That’s So Raven) and is best known as an actress for her work in the movie Fame (both versions). She’ll lend some insight into Jackson’s family in the fifth episode of the eighth season, which premieres on Sept. 22.

Awww. Good to know that Derek has something to smile about after leaving Meredith at the end of last season upon discovering that she tampered with his clinical trial.

“The story of [their adopted] baby, Zola, is going to be amazing,” promises Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. “As an adoptive mother myself, I really want this story to have a sense of authenticity — with both pain and joy. In a surprising way, I think the baby will bring them back together.” The season premieres September 22 on ABC

KMK Talks More Season 8


Keep those Kleenex boxes close, “Grey’s Anatomy” fans.

Access Hollywood caught up with Kevin McKidd (who plays Dr. Owen Hunt on the ABC series) at the Disney D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday where the handsome actor dished the dirt on what’s in store for the angst-filled staff of Seattle Grace.

“It’s a big season. My character just got promoted to the chief of the hospital — which comes out of the blue,” Kevin told Access of the medical drama’s eighth season, while promoting his upcoming Pixar film, “Brave” at the expo on Saturday. “There’s a lot of the usual behind-the-scenes drama. There’s problems with Christina [played by Sandra Oh] and Owen that might or might not be resolved.

“It’s going to be a bumpy ride,” he added.

While Kevin’s character may face a tough road ahead, the actor himself is excited for the season as he gets to step behind the camera for an episode.

“I’m actually just about to start prepping my next episode that I’m directing, which is exciting,” he told Access. “I directed one last season.”

As for rumors that Season 8 may be the last for some “Grey’s” stars, Kevin said “nobody knows that yet.”

“All of that is up in the air,” he said. “So we’ll have to see.”

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 8 will premiere on September 22 on ABC.
