Grey’s Anatomy fans have been debating the issue since last season. Was it right that Alex (Justin Chambers) told Owen (Kevin McKidd) that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) tampered with the Alzheimer’s trial? Now, the actor who plays Alex tells us where he stands on the debate.

“He wasn’t right,” Chambers tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Ratting out anyone [isn’t right]. I wouldn’t. But, Alex was also drunk, which was a big factor. And I think we all do stupid things, say stupid things, when we drink too much. He’s coming from a place of anger, because of what Lucy [Rachael Taylor] had done to him. So, it was more reactive.”
After seeing the first Season 8 sneak peek, it looks like both Alex and Meredith are going to pay for their actions. But, Chambers says that the friendship isn’t over.

There are a number of ways Cristina’s abortion dilemma could play out on Grey’s Anatomy this fall, but one thing appears fairly certain: If she terminates the pregnancy, her marriage to Owen is kaput.
“That’s a very good point,” reasons the baby daddy’s portrayer, Kevin McKidd. “Is it just a bump in the road, or is it a real block in their relationship? That’s addressed in the early part of the season.”
The very early part. As series creator Shonda Rhimes recently revealed to TVLine, the question of whether Cristina goes through with the abortion is answered by the end of the two-hour season opener, airing Sept. 22.
McKidd acknowledges that “the writers have written Cristina into a bit of a box,” but adds that that’s not necessarily a bad thing. “[T]he really good juicy stuff gets going when they go, ‘OK, we’re going to make this as difficult as we possibly can for this couple. They fought to get together, with the Teddy of it all in Season 6 and then the PTSD, and now it’s like slam, we’re going to give you the hardest problem of all.’
“It just gives us an opportunity to tell a better story and a more important story,” McKidd continues. “And it’s really tough. Network shows aren’t dealing with that topic of conversation about abortion. I think it’s cool that they’re not skirting around it, they’re going head on into it.”

When Grey’s Anatomy returns for its eighth season next month, Seattle Grace will be a very different hospital as Meredith (Ellen Pomepo) faces the fallout from tampering with Derek (Patrick Dempsey’s) Alzheimer’s clinical trial.
In the first Season 8 clip, titled “No Turning Back,” Chief Weber (James Pickens Jr.) lays down the law with Meredith, while Alex (Justin Chambers) must contend with angry colleagues upset that he ratted out a friend.
Meanwhile, Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) marriage is tested as the couple has very different opinions about her pregnancy.
Amid all the personal conflict, Sarah Drew’s April is tasked with having to navigate the minefields as Seattle Grace’s new chief resident.
“She’s definitely having a hard time wrangling her residents,” Drew told The Hollywood Reporter this month at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in Beverly Hills. “[April] works really hard and is incredibly organized and is doing absolutely everything that a stellar chief resident should do — except getting anybody to do anything they’re supposed to do.”
“The first several episodes, she’s going out of her mind and is pretty frantic trying to get people to pay attention and listen to her and do what she says,” Drew said.
Ultimately, it sounds like there’s only so much April can take before she loses control.
“[April] had a couple little snappy moments in the first two episodes but then she screws up royally and she can’t snap at anyone after that,” Drew teased.
While Drew said Grey’s would not incorporate her pregnancy into the story line, love is ultimately in the cards for April this season.
“Yes, there is a love interest for April but it won’t happen for a while into the season,” said Drew, who is due in January. “I don’t know who it is. Could be a new person, could be a character we’ve seen before, I don’t know.”
Grey’s Anatomy returns with a two-hour premiere, titled “Free Falling,” on Thursday, Sept. 22.
