Old towns of Germany: Limburg an der Lahn 30-08-2010 19:36

I made a small and quick walkthrough Limburg because I had to wait 1,5 hours for my next train. Limburg is located in Western Hesse near the Rhineland-Palatinan border. The city has a population of 18000 (33000 including suburbs within the city borders; total of 76000 in the whole "agglomeration"). I'll show you some pics of the old inner city.

I was in Michelstadt today. Michelstadt is one of the bigger towns in the Odenwald region between Darmstadt and Heidelberg. The town has a total population of ca. 17,000. I took a walk in the old town.

Wiesbaden Altstadt - the Old Town

Altstadt is the heart of the city center of Wiesbaden. It is very beautful with hilly pedestrian streets, squares and boulevards. Schlossplatz, Marktplatz and Mauritisplatz are 3 squares very close to each other. With its church and beautiful palaces this area is the very heart.

Marktkirche (Market Church) is the landmark of Wiesbaden's city center and the city's tallest building. Its western steeple is 92m high. Marktkirche is a protestant neo-Gothic church, built in red granite.

MAINZ ALTSTADT - THE OLD TOWN

The Old Town has many nice historic buildings in different styles, but unfortunately some ugly grey 60s modernist buildings have been built on too many

places. The heart of Altstadt is very cozy with its square, cathedral and alleys though. The city center is partly hilly.

The Schiller statue at Schillerplatz. Friedrich Schiller was a German poet, philosofer, historican and playwright in the 18th-19th centuries, friend with Goethe.
