James Carroll Beckwith was born in Hannibal Missouri in 1852. He was a landscape, portrait and genre painter whose Impressionist style led to esteemed recognition in the late nineteenth century.
In 1873 he went to study art in Paris and became acquainted with the expatriate painter, John Singer Sargent. Beckwith’s plein-air studies such as Bertha, c. 1892, illustrate his Impressionistic tendencies with the effects of light on the young woman’s face, hat, and dress. The broad and swift brushstrokes of blue, green, and purple, are highlighted with white and yellow. The contrasts of color and sketch-like quality of the painting classify Beckwith’s significant and beautifully rendered contribution to American Impressionism.

Gregory Calibey- (b. 1959) American, a true Renaissance talent, was the recipient of three national awards in painting before finishing his secondary education. Calibey studied fine art at Wesleyan University and at the University of North Carolina, where he worked with his mentor Marvin Saltzman. After completing his courses, he experimented with a number of artistic disciplines including extensive design work in the areas of architecture and furniture. He ventured into illustration and even television production before coming to the conclusion that painting and sculpting would be his life's creative pursuit. He cites among his influences Degas, Sargent and Rodin.

Sir George Hayter [English Painter, 1792-1871]
Sir George Hayter (1792 – 1871) was a notable English painter, specialising in portraits and large works involving in some cases several hundred individual portraits. Queen Victoria appreciated his merits and appointed Hayter her Principal Painter in Ordinary and also awarded him a Knighthood 1841.

The Master of Moulins was the great painter of Valois, France in the last part of the 15th century. The title "Master of Moulins" came from his triptych in the Catherdral of Moulins. He has now been identified as Jean Hey- an artist of Netherlandish Origin- possibly a student of Hugo van der Goes.

Louis Buisseret was born in Binche (Hainaut) in 1888. He studied at the Mons Académie under Emile Motte and Louis Joseph Greuse, before going to Brussels where he continued his studies under Jean Delville and Herman Richir. In 1910 he was placed second in the Painting section for the Prix de Rome, which he won the following year for Engraving. He was much influenced by his time in Rome and Benezit Dictionary of Art (Grund 2006) records that 'He painted according to a theory he inherited from Italian painting which he described as that of "sequences" or "static compositions".' In 1928 he was one of the founding members of the Nervia group of artists, and the following year was appointed Principal of Mons Académie; a post he held until 1949. He died in Brussels in 1956.
