... Если я отпущу свои мысли как птиц – я вряд ли соберу их к себе когда-нибудь снова. И никто может не узнать, что фальшивые мечты других – это их собственные застывшие или забытые в прошлом извинения.

Смерть продолжается столько же, сколько и жизнь человека. Каждый из нас таскает ее за собой до первого, второго, третьего или шестого удобного случая. Смерть нужно преподавать в институтах, чтобы ее не так романтизировали – и меньше пугаться слова «ничто», которое за этим последует. Keep broken – это еще никому не помешало не жить, и никому не помешает не умереть.

Все знают, что я еще не достроил своей снежной крепости – хотя я знаю, что чертежи к ней не сложнее разрезанного пополам апельсина.

Все мы живем благодаря смерти. Мне нетрудно принять ее как факт, но мне трудно принять пулю навылет. Если только это не те самые ключи во всех ладонях, обещанные мне за хорошее поведение, но так пока и не пригодившиеся.

Я ощущал в своих коленях усталость трехдневного танцевального марафона, а в горле – медленную склянку с ядом – что не мешало мне внимательно слушать мое переменчивое и тонкое как свирель настроение. Моя недолгая любовь, сославшись на мигрень, снова покинула меня. Текст моей роли, извиняясь, забрала с собой. Поэтому пишу по памяти, и прошу не судить строго, и быть снисходительными к возможным ошибкам...

...Пора бы мне перестать любить многоточия, запятые и скобки, а полюбить уже точки. И красиво их везде расставлять.

Lizards' aside, Not-Mad Matt can be found fretting about alien invasions on the new and fourth Muse album, Black Holes and Revelations. It's a sonically mental work of audacious brilliance that variously manages to cram in prog-rock, spaghetti western soundtracks, bludgeoning synths and flamenco guitars.

"It's the sound," proffers Matt descriptively, "of The Matrix and Clint Eastwood. It's like a western on Mars, with laser beams and intergalactic war."

His influences range from Italian folk music and film composer Ennio Morricone to streaming radio from the Middle East fifties sci-fi rock, inspired by The Tornadoes, his father George Bellamy's old band.

First single, Supermassive Black Hole, sees the geeks go chic. Put simply, it's the sound of Muse breaking into the Big Pop Vault and tip-toeing out with Britney Spears' Do Somethin' in a sack marked 'SWAG'.

And it's quite brilliant.

"We felt that was something we'd never investigated before as a band," he says of the their decision to burst out of the musty geek-boy bedroom and into a neon-speckled dancefloor.

"We thought it would be nice to put the emphasis on the groove on some of the songs. We really wanted people to be able to dance to them and do something unexpected even to ourselves. It's more of a dance track, and I'm singing in a silly high voice. (Pauses) I mean, I do sing in a silly high voice quite often but it usually comes off as operatic."

Clearly, Muse have moved on from being written-off all those years ago as a poor man's Radiohead. "We've seen a lot of bands bubble up and disappear," says Matt, who formed the group in 2000 with schoolfriends Dom Howard (drums) and Chris Wolstenholme (bass).

Cydonia is a place on Mars, where the controversial rock formation shaped like a human face can be seen. Doing some further research, there are conspiracy theories that Cydonia is actually a NASA cover up, because there's more than one "human" face there, and evidence of pyramids and a city... Martians may have existed there. Certainly something Matt would be interested in, having said this - there are theories of a great war that destroyed Mars, and the inhabitants had to move elsewhere... to Earth.

"...A great war was fought once in our solar system. One of our planets was devastated because of it. But by the end of it the aggressor was beat back and they were able to rebuild here on Earth."

"The enemy in the war, devastated Mars..."

However, more recent pictures of Cydonia reveal that the faces look nothing like faces at all.
