Not long ago, Yunho and Changmin announced the restart of their promotions as Tohoshinki. Having been inactive for over a year, this can be seen as a warm up for their official return. The duo gave us an insight into their hearts during their first photoshoot in Japan. It is due to the timing that they are now able to speak of such issues and it is because of the present situation that these thoughts have come to mind.
Their rebirth begins here.
Q: How was this year as a whole?
During the first half of the year, I worked extremely hard on my television drama, just like Yunho. It gave me a lot of time to reflect on myself and so I really gained a lot. TVXQ was basically my entire life from the day of our debut so there was a lot that I didn't put into consideration before. Now that I've had the opportunity to venture out as an individual, I've lived the year with the thought that I must do my very best as an artist on a scale of 1 to 10.
Q: Yunho took part in a musical, did Changmin also get the chance to sing?
I've been attending singing classes and I've been to the karaoke with members of staff. To be perfectly honest, I have a lot of insecurities and worries. There are so many things that I want to do, but the truth is that they are completely unattainable in reality. I'm always under so much pressure, to the point where I feel like I have no way of controlling the anger and frustration in me, and it's not because I've made a mistake or anything, but more due to forces that I know I have no way of fighting. It's the fact that there are things that just cannot be solved. Even though the same things might remain stuck in my head from the moment I wake up, it seems as though I simply have no way of countering it, and it's been the same way from the beginning, so I've literally just exploded in the past. Throughout this time, I've had the chance to change this trait of mine. I'll probably still be like this in 20 years' time, even now, I'm far from perfect (laughs).
Q: How do you feel standing on stage as a duo?
Ecstatic, and I really enjoy it. As the day drew closer, I felt the panic creeping up on me and I downed an entire cup of coffee without realizing it one day. That was the first time I had been so nervous since the moment of birth. When the staff asked 'Will you be okay with just the two of you?' I couldn't understand what came over me, but I suddenly felt the internal conflict within me in full force. I still remember very clearly the moment when Yunho and I exchanged glances and the two of us shouted 'Go!' together.
Q: I heard that there was real chaos at the show and your segment had to be moved forward in the performance rundown (at SMTown) because the fans got so anxious about the two of you.
Even as we were rehearsing, we kept saying to ourselves that it would be okay, even if some people had already lost faith in us, but as soon as I got on stage, I told myself 'it's okay, just let yourself go'. Of course, for the sake of our future endeavors, there's still a lot to do.
Q: You've matured so much, can we expect you to offer something new in the days to come?
Up till today, we've put an immense amount of effort into recording and rehearsing. There is nothing in this world that will ever be 100% satisfactory, and that's basically what we're going to keep in mind as we restart our activities as a duo. It's not that we're giving ourselves excuses… we hope to improve through projecting the joy of singing, undergoing a change in our style and doing our very best.
I've always thought that my voice went pretty well with Yunho's (laughs), we'll maintain the style TVXQ has always had whilst also bringing our fans something that belongs solely to the two of us! I can genuinely feel a sense of security.
Thank you for waiting for us.

English Translation
Max The gray space that surrounds me scarily,
Although I smile bitterly about wishes that are still left,
U-Know Inside the past memories that lost its way in the messed up road,
I wander again like puzzles that don’t match,
U-Know & Max Hug me I have to face the world,
If I go till there will I see the end? The deep wound won’t heal,
Dear god, please save us, in this last war,
U-Know I only need you, only you know.
That city that was burned black needs a poem(?) of tears,
Max The lust that is mixed with my grin and those people that became blind after losing their dream,
Please lend them your strength so that they can spread their wings again.
U-Know & Max hug me coldly I have to face the world……in this last war,
U-Know When the sun’s light turns red you,
make a prayer so wishful.
Max Even if the light of wisdom is blinded,
don’t stop, wake the destroyed world.
U-Know & Max Kiss me passionately, I have to fight the lies,
how far will I have to go to see the end? The deep wound won’t heal,
Dear God, please save us, in this last war.

2010: The decline of optimism in Japanese Music Industry
Koneko_aka_Yuna
:
20-12-2010 09:36
Up until this year, Japan’s still-massive music industry looked like it would continue to avoid the fate of its overseas counterparts, which have almost all been shaken to the core by declining record sales. Even though the Japanese industry has mostly failed to export its products abroad at rates commensurate with anime and video games or generate any new and innovative models of pop stardom, its bottom line has not taken a haircut on par with the ones taken by its American and European brethren.
Physical record sales have been declining for years, and growth within the digital market finally petered out earlier in 2010. In fact, sales of digital products are down 5% quarter-to-quarter from 2009. There are still viable mass-market stars of the girl-pop, “pretty boys,” and nerd-exploitation-pop varieties, but fewer and fewer of them can actually attain any meaningful level of popularity. And the markets for niche material — classical, jazz, blues, rap, metal, etc. — are steadily collapsing. To be sure, file-sharing — the great disruptor of music revenues worldwide — has played a part in the industry’s contraction. Yet the baseline assumption that music is something free which comes from a digital tap hasn’t taken a strong hold in Japan despite being so prevalent in the West and other parts of Asia.
So digital distribution has arrived through establishment channels, leading to digital products like the Chaku-Uta Full download. ¥350 gets you a single song, packed to the brim with Digital Rights Management (DRM) software. This prevents you from sharing it with your friends, but also prevents you from, say, taking a song you bought on your phone and playing it on your PC.
The issue is the widespread adoption of smartphones. When your phone is a computer and your data plan is unlimited, you move from a closed consumption environment to an open one. And from the perspective of the Japanese music industry, the track record of monetizing music within such environments looks bone-chilling
If that all sounds like a hopeless situation for content owners, observers should take care not to discount the reasons why they’ve been able to avoid catastrophe so far. Big firms remain willing to use powerful strong-arm tactics to protect their interests. For instance, Sony Music Entertainment alone has basically been able to keep iTunes from really reaching critical mass in Japan all by itself by flat-out refusing to allow its music onto the platform. The same sort of thing could keep the smartphone-distribution market from collapse (or rationalization, depending on one’s point of view). The industry could very well figure out a way to create some viable smartphone-enabled Chaku-Uta variant by sheer force of numbers.
It is fair to say that this is not a situation the establishment industry apparatus is prepared for. In all likelihood it will figure out a way to maintain its hold on music in Japan, but 2010 was the last year anybody could say so for sure.

Park Shi Hoo and Kim So Yeon – the DVD Interviews

During Park Shi Hoo’s interview, he noted that he loved the scene where Ma Hye Ri ran around looking for him, and kept yelling “Seo Byun! Seo Byun!” That scene ended episode 11. It was also one of Kim So Yeon’s favorite scenes as well – thoughts on that anyone?! O_O His favorite scenes were the alarm clock scene, the two kisses (!!) and the “Seo Byun! Seo Byun!” scene. He wasn’t too happy that the action scene in episodes 3 and 4 was so short.
He was also asked if Ma Hye Ri was similar to Kim So Yeon, and he said yes – they were similar in actions and speech. He also noted that he’s very much like his character too (*swoon*) – but it looks like he also has a bit of a naughty mind (he liked the bath scene in the first episode and lamented that the crew did so well in covering Kim So Yeon up).
When asked whether he would have let Ma Hye Ri/Kim So Yeon get away with covering up her father’s crime, Park Shi Hoo said that he would – if he truly loved the girl enough.
As for Kim So Yeon’s interview, she agreed that she’s most like her character, and that she hoped to take away with her Hye Ri’s honesty and spunk. The karaoke scene was supposedly more “sexy” and “risque” than was shown, but thanks to the director, she didn’t have to go too far. She regretted the last couple of episodes for being so rushed – she wished that they had more time to learn the lines. Both of them had said the writing and the script were perfect, and they didn’t have to improvise any lines.
She also said that Park Shi Hoo is listed as “Seo Byun” in her cell phone (cuuute!). The line that she still remembers from the series comes from episode 8, when Park carries her down the mountain (because her shoes broke) -
“Why is the road so long?” “Because I made it longer.”
Based on these interviews though, they would seriously make SUCH A CUTE COUPLE! Their favorite scene was the “Seo Byun!” scene? Both of them?! My goodness – they must’ve loved the emotion and heartbreak and desire in that scene….
