Erosion web quest
1. 1) Running water: streams possess both potential energy and kinetic energy. As water moves downstream, potential energy is converted into kinetic energy. Most of the kinetic energy is released as frictional heat, but a small amount remains to do the work of erosion and transportation.
2) Human activities: soil erosion by water cause of landscape degradation in semi-humid to semi-arid Mediterranean environments.
3) Wind: wind erosion is the detachment, transportation and redeposition of soil particles by wind and. The most familiar result of wind erosion is the loss of topsoil and nutrients which reduces the soil’s ability to produce crops.
4) Glaciers: glaciers not only transport material as they move, but the landscape. The ice erode the land surface and carries the broken rocks and soil debris far from their original places, resulting in some interesting glacial landforms.
5) Mass wasting: mass-wasting processes such as creep, landslides, and debris flows are distinguished from each other in part by weather they occur rapidly or slowly. Landslides are capable of transporting massive amounts of rock and soil down slope for miles in very short periods.

2. Weathering: includes two processes that often work, both of them occurs in place. And both of them with no movement and they are chemical weathering and mechanical weathering. Erosion: as soon of the rock particles which means loosened by one of the weathering processes moved, it called mass wasting or erosion.

3. The development of soil crust on sandy land may affect the surface hydrological process. The advanced biotic crust could increase evaporation and dew deposition compared to the primitive biotic crust and bare sand although the differences between them were not significant.

4. Alluvial fans are fan-shaped deposits of water-transported material ( alluvium) . They typically form the base of topographic features where there is a marked break in slope. Consequently, alluvial fans tend to be coarse-grained , especially at the their mouths. At their edges ,however, they can be relative fine –grained.

6. Where waves approach the coastline at an angle, when they break their swash pushes beach material up the beach at the same angle.
8. 1) living breakwater
2) bulkhead
3) groins
4) beach
5) more land
9. I think that it’s a problem because when people build a small house beside a lake or sea or beach here there is an erosion problem, after many years the house will be underwater because of the waves and the land moving from area to another then they need to change their building and move it to another place. And there is some reason that building houses are not allowed, because they know that because the erosion, the water moves in a big distance every year.
