Have you ever thought about tutoring? So, I have a question: from what should I start lessons with children? From pictures, grammar, phonetics or something else?

I used to be a private teacher for a year. I taught 2 girls of 12 and a boy of 14. It was a real fun but I don't really like being a tutor. ) It depends on the age of the children. If they are little, I advise you to look for a book by Mikitenko. She created a system of teaching little children. If your pupils are older, then some other references should be used depending on what your pupils want to achieve by attending your classes.

Kim_Berly, well, I even don't know children of what age should I teach?

Jelllyjam, ))) I guess I told you everything I could. More questions? you are welcome! Good luck, anyway!
I used to teach English for 3 years to boys of a different level and age. Actually, from the very beginning to the final exams. Most of all I liked it at the end:))) Well, we started from the alphabet and sounds, then simple words and grammatical structures. Then increase number of words. Most of all programs I like the one by V. Skulte. Unfortunately, I have no experience of teaching edults. But I've decided to try:)

Have_nothing, tell me please how do you usually try to identify the level? With help of some tests or in some other way?

Веселинка_Малопопка, Adults. Well, about the programme by V. Skulte, what is it about? I mean what advantages does it have? Could you tell about it in some words? And where can I find it?

Jelllyjam, first of all i ask to bring their study books and look through them... then I make some tests for them or exercises ant then ask to answer why they have chosen this or that variant, and then analyse everything :)

I began thinking about being a tutor some months ago, because last year I entered the Linguistic University. And study there by correspondence. My second speciality will be a teacher of English. Therefore I started to think about teaching. From what it’s better to start with?.. It’s a difficult question. I will answer exactly when I become an experienced tutor. Now I can only try to suppose that we should give children the information, which is useful and interesting to them. It may be drawing pictures and trying to name or describe it in English. It may be colours – trying to remember them well. Or it may be different simple games, which help children to develop themselves. We shouldn’t teach little children grammar or spelling, maybe phonetics a little. But it’s my personal opinion. The other day I’m going to advertise myself in newspaper as a tutor. I’d like to find such parents who want their children study English. I haven’t practice enough, but I’ll try. I hope this my idea will be successful.
