November 15, 2007 – Throwing elements of traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean dress into their creative woks, designers served up an eclectic Asian mix for Spring that included dragon prints at Yohji Yamamoto; shibori fabrics at Tao, Thakoon, Peter Som, and Ports 1961; obi-style belts at Alessandro Dell'Acqua; and calligraphic motifs at Lie Sang Bong—as well as variations on the Mao collar at 6267, Balenciaga, and Prada (where Miuccia Prada first floated the idea for resort). "I've always found Japanese costume fascinating, with a sense of decorum and femininity that is unparalleled," says Antonio Berardi. His starting point was a child's kimono bought on a trip to the Land of the Rising Sun. |
