The place of "Nahui"
Good day, fellow Peruvian Wikipedians!
Can someone hint me on pronounciation of the word "Nahui" which is a town and a mountain in Peru?
- It's not Nahui, it's Ñahui, and is an spaniard form for quechua word ñawi (eye). It sound more or less as "Nyawee" ˈɲa.wi, "Ja.wi
- Thanks a lot! Now, explanation. We in Russia have a highly offensive vulgarism which is spelled using latin characters exactly as «nahui». It is used as a place to offensively suggest people to go. The closest English analog could be «fuck off and go to Hell». And there's an urban legend that this place is located in Peru because someone with too much free time found Ñahui on the map of Peru! Thanks god, our «nahui» is pronounced in a very different way and the legend can be debunked. Thanks once again for clarification! Alex Kapranoff 13:59, Apr 14, 2005 (UTC)
