Decline The long hot summer of 1972 in Ukraine led to a decline in yields in the breadbasket of the former Soviet Union. The crop failure destabilized world food prices for two years after the Soviets quietly bought up surplus grain in the United States. Wheat prices eventually rose more than threefold. The episode shows the extreme interdependence of the global food system.

Говориться про довге гаряче літо в 1972 році, що призвело до неврожаю зерна в Україні і Радянський Союз був змушений купувати зерно в Сполучених Штатів , все це підняло світові ціни на зерно.

Ніколи раніше не чула про це.
