Even these two books have a one author in common, they are very different.
"How To Be A Canadian" is a humor look at Canadian cuisine, culture, regional differences, and even Canadian patriotism and beer! :). It covers may aspects and provides many details, I even learned some things from there. Btw, I see myself in this book sometimes ! I am true Canadian!:).
There are many parts that made me laugh really hard, but some parts are a little too simplify, "canned" humor . In general it is smart, funny and really must read for every Canadian book.
Specially I love charters
1) about our national symbols
The Russians have a bear, the Brits a lion, and the Americans a mighty eagle. In Canada the national animal is a beaver. Renowned for its hard work, even temper, industrious nature and — oh, who are we kidding. The beaver is a forty-pound water rat whose most heroic trait is that he thinks to slap his tail and warn his buddies before he runs away."
2) "Twelve Ways to Say I'm Sorry"

Second book... First of all, of course, author doesn't not hate Canadians, he deeply loves them and Canada in general. But he sees some ways to improve some things :).
The book is funny, the humour is harp and wise; but it contains not just jokes, it has a lot of serious thoughts and ideas, and the moral in the end.
Specially I love parts about our history , "
keeping the Americans out, the French in, and making the Natives disappear ".
I also love "The Gold War on the Ice" part about Soviet Union-Canada hockey series; the language is amazing , I had feeling that I am watching the game :).
Book is touching and entertaining, it could be interesting for many people, but to really enjoy it you should be interested in understanding Canadians.
