After thinking this over, before i read this post i had a thought that he was all nice and awesome simply because american guys ARE like that. They know that unless they woo the girl, they have no chance... no chance to date her or especially get in her pants. So he was just doing what all guys do, being on his best behavior and now he wants to make sure he's not in it for a relationship.
