Have you ever noticed that you feel most comfortably when you are alone with your own self? Nobody can watch you. Nobody can interfere with what you are doing. In such moments you are not ashamed to reveal your weaknesses, to act as you like, to be yourself. Actually, these are the only moments you can be yourself, and at the same time, when you think of it, you feel lonely, as it is very strange and distressing – to reduce your being yourself only to the condition of complete privacy. But still more distressing is the thought that even in such moments you sometimes keep yourself under control, not daring to behave naturally in accordance with your wishes and necessities.
In one of her movies Barbara Strazend said on the part of her heroin that she would like someone to know her, to know her completely and profoundly, what she thinks about, what toothpaste she uses to clean her teeth, what food she likes.. Her heroin was really lucky to meet at last such a man, whom she could tell everything that was on her mind, in his company she could eat whatever and how ever she liked without feeling ill at ease or being ashamed for not keeping a diet.. There was no need to pretend. She felt аbsоlutely free, as she could be herself and, being herself, she was accepted. It seems to me, we all need this someone, someone who would understand you and welcome yout as you are. But the problem sometimes is not in the absence of such a person. The problem is whether you are ready to let another person into a private world called “yourself”, whether you are able to recognize yourself for introduction to another person.
So, why is it so hard to be yourself?
