How to Protect Your Packages from The Dreaded Porch Pirate 04-10-2019 12:23 к комментариям - к полной версии - понравилось!

You might not realize how simple it is for a thief to simply walk right up to your front porch, grab the package that is just sitting there, and then stuffing it into their car without anyone even noticing. At night, it’s even easier thanks to the darkness.

Professional thieves are known to take time out of their day to drive around and look for a delivery truck. Obviously, they would soon find one, and then, all they have to do is follow it. It’s only a matter of time until they make a delivery, and then the thief watches the home to see if anyone comes outside or responds to the delivery. Once the driver leaves and a little bit of time has passed, the thief will jump at the chance to take the package. Sometimes, these thieves will just drive up and down streets to see if there are any packages sitting out in view.

No, they don’t know what is in the package, and it is possible, that it is just junk. However, it could also be something that they could use themselves or sell the item online.

Protecting Your Deliveries

There are a number of things that you can do to increase Home Security and protect any deliveries that you might get. Here are some tips:

  • Watch and monitor the tracking numbers for any delivery that you are expecting.
  • Make sure that you always require a signature for any delivery, even if you miss an attempt at delivery. They will bring it back a couple of times.
  • You can even take this a step further and ask that all delivery drivers ask you what your name is instead of saying, “Is your name so-and-so?” There are certainly cases out there where the delivery driver said, “Are you Bob Smith,” the person said yes, even if they weren’t, and that person then can sign and get the package.
  • If you know that you will not be home during the time of delivery, you can also choose to have your package delivered to a place like the UPS Store, and then you can just go get it when you have time.
  • Alternatively, you can ask that your package is left on the property in a place where a thief is less likely to see it.
  • You can even possibly have a delivery driver leave your package at an apartment building office or with a concierge.
  • You can also deter thieves by placing a visible security camera near the door and stick a sign for a security company where people can see it…even if you don’t have an account with that company.
  • The best thing to do is to avoid having any package left at your door when you are not home, and this includes things that you might leave for someone to pick up.
  • If you send a package to someone, make sure that it is insured.
  • If the delivery company will send an email or text before the arrival of the package, sign up for that feature.
  • You should do the same with your mail, too. Try to pick it up as soon as you can. If you are going out of town, put a vacation hold on your delivery.
  • Don’t ever leave any check in your mailbox. Instead, deposit them into a postal collection box.
