Mr. Putin was born on October 7, 1952, in the city of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg).
Place of residence: Moscow. Vladimir V. Putin received a higher education degree from the Leningrad State University in 1975. He is President of the Russian Federation. Nationality: the Russian Federation. Mr. Putin is running as a self-nominated candidate. He was registered on the basis of collected voter signatures. Upon graduation from the University, Vladimir V. Putin was assigned to the state security service. From 1985 to 1990, he was on mission in the German Democratic Republic. In 1990, Mr. Putin became Assistant on International Affairs to Head of the Leningrad State University, and later served as Adviser to Chairman of the Leningrad Soviet.
On August 20, 1991, he handed in his resignation from the state security service. In 1991, Vladimir V. Putin joined the Saint Petersburg government as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Mayor’s Office. He was overseeing projects of attracting investment into the city’s economy, of launching joint ventures and cooperation with foreign partners. From 1994 to 1996, he served as First Deputy Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Government and Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Mayor’s Office. Mr. Putin headed the City Commission for Current Affairs and was overseeing law enforcement agencies and interaction with the Saint Petersburg Legislative Assembly. In August 1996, he was transferred to Moscow to work as Deputy Head of the Department of Presidential Affairs of the Russian Federation. In March 1997, Vladimir V. Putin became Deputy Head of Administration of the President of the Russian Federation and Head of the Control Department. In May 1998, he became First Deputy Head of Administration of the President of the Russian Federation. In July 1998, Mr. Putin became Director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. In March 1999, he became Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. In August 1999, Vladimir V. Putin became Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. In December 1999, he became Acting President of the Russian Federation. In March 2000, he was elected President of the Russian Federation. Mr. Putin holds a Candidate of Economics degree. He is married, with two daughters.
