They say: you can win any war, but if you fight your biology, you are doomed to lose.
Planet Earth required any animal to be as brutal and mean as possible, as deceptive and as fast as they can be.

Millions of years of evolution, thousands of years of new form of selection: selection of humans by human society.
All this applying the same rules:
Heros DIE, cowards outlast them.
The mean are destroyed by the... meanest.
The innocent and naive are punished, the guilty are the ones who rule.
The wrong write the history turning the right - wrong.

The paradox is that those in power demand you to be honest and good. And threaten to punish you if you misbehave. The only explanation is: they do it to protect themselves and to preserve the power, because if you become too strong and mean enough - you might take their place.
That's why they allow police and secret services to control every step you make, that's why they permit your employer to work you like a mule - weak and tired and eventually sick - you are less dangerous to them.
XXth century was exceptional for the number of new technics implemented to control the population. Before it was all rather about customs and traditions and the church of course.
Now new methods were invented: ideology, media, mass culture, fear of global war, aliens invasion.
Now the newest are coming up: ecological crisis and my favourite one - the guilt complex.

You should feel guilty that planet Earth is dying. - Why the fuck me? and not the corporations or states benefiting from the economical progress the most?

You should feel guilty that negro children in africa are hungry. - Why the fuck me? and not the fathers who made those children? why not the corrupted African governments? why not the corporations that have bloody contracts with those governments and often helped them to seize power?

But if you do not feel bad about your imaginable crimes - the public opinion is gonna take a giant shit on you. So you MUST feel guilty.

Well "public" is a synonym of "stupid".

To get back to the original idea: state is trying to make of a human something antipodal to their biology. And if you follow the instructions, you gonna have to fight your biology, means you gonna fail. So if you are and ideal citizen and you are totally unhappy - it's normal.
The funny part is the declared norms and standards don't match the de-facto norms of society which still expect a man to be somewhat a brutal anymal and a woman to be selfish female. Once again - that's a biology, so if you match the de-facto standards - you are most probably happy.
Just don't be smart. Being too smart is never a good thing.
