Брат одной моей коллеги по работе - летчик - только год назад окончил универ и его первой работой стала работа по контракту на Мальдивских островах! Летает там на маленьких грузовых самолетах с острова на остров. Теперь он пишет ей эмейлы с фотками Мальдив, когда у нас тут -20 со снегом и ветром :))) Ему нравится. Говорит, что жить бы там всю жизнь не хотел - скучно, а вот полгода-год поработать вполне можно.

St thomas is gorgeous! That's trunk bay by the way, and it's actuall on St John's island... You won't like the people on st thomas a whole lot, BVIs are better as far as people go, and crime rate , i think is the highest in caribbean, but i'm sure it's no worse than here in US. But the island is gorgeous and it's boating distance from other more gorgeous islands.... Mostly black people live there though, so be ready
I'd totally do it...we actually though about that, but decided our businesses couldn't be run from there...

Elena_Ollick, yeah I love the scenery. I feel like it would be a nice change of a climate and pace of life. After living and Russia for the most part of my life and then Northern NY, I need some warmth and sun. :)
Are they truly hostile to newcomers on the island or are simply ghetto? :)
I might have to take my crazy Jamaican GF with me, she'll be my protection.
I would love to get a chance to live there for some time, but it would mean that I would have to leave my BF behind, I don't think he would be able to do his job from there or see his daughter. Aghhh...

CRAZY_VENUS, I don't know that they're exactly hostile to new comers.. But they are black and more ghetto black than on the other islands. The two most friendly islands are Barbados and Tortola. I think you need to fly there and check it out, you'll be like :'screw it all, i'm going!
