IRONMAN - это соревнование по триатлону, организуемое The World Triathlon Corporation (Всемирная корпорация триатлона). Состоит из трёх этапов, проводимых в следующем порядке без перерывов: заплыва на 2,4 мили (3,86 км), заезда на велосипеде на 112 миль (180,25 км) и забега на 26,2 мили (42.195 км ). Участникам даётся 17 часов, чтобы завершить все этапы. Состязание начинается в 7:00, на плавание предоставляется 2 часа 20 минут, велогонка заканчивается в 17:30, забег - в полночь. В 1996 году Luc Van Lierde (Бельгия) прошел все дистанцию за 8 часов 4 минуты и 8 секунд, долгое время (15 лет) этот результат был рекордом чемпионатов мира на Гавайях. У женщин такой рекорд в 2009 году установила Chrissie Wellington (Англия) 8 часов 54 минуты 2 секунды.
North-American Jesse Thomas (08:42:33) and Danish Tine Holst (10:02:35) conquered the twenty-fifth edition of the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote 2016, where 1771 athletes of 50 different nationalities started, in an event offering 2000 points in the world ranking and 40 slots for the world championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Thomas overcame Germany’s Jan Frodeno (08:44:38), current world champion and gold medallist at the 2008 Pekin Olympics, and British David McNamee (08:46:36), who finished in second and third place respectively.
At the same time, Belgian Alexandra Tondeur (10:04:53) and British Lucy Charles (10:10:13) joined Holst on the podium in this silver anniversary of this long-distance triathlon, whilst Diana Riesler, winner of this event in 2015, had to content herself with fourth place.

El norteamericano Jesse Thomas (08:42:33) y la danesa Tine Holst (10:02:35) conquistaron la vigésimo quinta edición del Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote 2016, que reunió este sábado a 1.900 especialistas de 50 nacionalidades, otorgando 2.000 puntos clasificatorios para el ranking mundial y 40 plazas para el Campeonato del Mundo en Kona (Hawái).
Thomas superó al alemán Jan Frodeno (08:44:38), actual campeón mundial y medalla de oro de esta disciplina en los Juegos Olímpicos de Pekín (2008), y al británico David McNamee (08:46:36), quienes concluyeron en la segunda y tercera posición, respectivamente. El mejor español, Iván Raña, termino en quinto lugar.
Asimismo, la belga Alexandra Tondeur (10:04:53) y la británica Lucy Charles (10:10.13) acompañaron a Holst en el podio femenino en la celebración de las bodas de plaza de este triatlón de larga distancia, mientras que la alemana Diana Riesler, ganadora de esta prueba en 2015, tuvo que conformarse con la cuarta plaza. La española Saleta Castro, aunque hizo una buena carrera, tuvo malas sensaciones en la carrera en pie y tuvo que retirarse,
