SIZE: SMALL 18” to fit approximately 6m-24m

MEDIUM 20” to fit approximately ages 2-4

LARGE 22” to fit approximately ages 4-Teen

Pattern is written for smaller size, with changes for larger sizes in ().

PATTERN DIFFICULTY: EASY

STITCH KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

sc (single crochet), hdc (half-double crochet), sl st (slip stitch), ch (chain)

working in a round

working to gauge

MATERIALS LIST:

2, 2.5 oz balls of your color of choice of cotton worsted weight yarn

Sugar ‘n Crème Yarn used for the sample.

Small amount of contrasting yarn for embroidery

U.S.-8, H, (5.0 mm) Crochet Hook, or hook needed for gauge

OTHER ITEMS NEEDED:

Scissors, for clipping yarn

Tapestry Needle to weave in ends

GAUGE:

With H hook: 1

check gauge! I tend to crochet a little loosely, for reference. You may need a

different size hook.

TIPS:

Do NOT join rounds unless expressly stated to do so.

Do not turn after rounds on the hat.

CROWN:

Starting out: With hook needed for gauge and yarn, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 8 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.

(8 hdc)

Rnd 2: Work 2 hdc in each hdc around.

(16 hdc)

Rnd 3: Work (1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st) around.

(24 hdc)

Rnd 4: Work (1 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around.

(32 hdc)

Rnd 5: Work (1 hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around.

(40 hdc)

Rnd 6: Work (1 hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around.

CONTINUE FOR SMALL:

(48 sc)

Rnd 7: Work (1 hdc in next 11 sts, 2 sc in next st) around.

CONTINUE FOR MEDIUM:

(52 hdc)

Rnd 7: Work (1 hdc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st) around.

(56 hdc)

Rnd 17 (19, 20): Ch 1. Work (1 sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in next st) around. Join

Rnd 18-24 (20-27, 21-28): Ch 1. Work 1 sc in each st around. Join. After

last round, finish off. Weave in all ends.

FINISHING:

Do half a cross-stitch on every other stitch on round before last. Repeat in

the opposite direction to complete the cross-stitch pattern. Finish off &

weave in ends.
