Naples, Pompeii and Vesuvius. Italy. 21-07-2011 17:31 к комментариям - к полной версии - понравилось!

Naples - brash, anarchic and in many places dirty city, some people find these qualities off putting, but not me, I loved this city. It is utterly fantastic and perhaps the only true city left in Europe ; city centre of which has not yet been taken over by estate agents or turned into a sterile yuppie heaven. It is lively place - there is hardly a quiet area, everywhere is a hive of activity - shops, restaurants, bars and all kinds of other establishments usually catering not to tourist but to local inhabitant who still dwells in the city centre, not to mention traffic, which at first sight is nuts, but surprisingly I found it easier and safer to cross streets in Naples than in London ; drivers simply drive round you or slow down and let you through, this made city much more fun and enjoyable to explore.

Enough talking heres more info if youre interested -

1. Welcome to Naples or the first sights and sounds that greeted me when I stepped out of the central station. Piazza Garibaldi is one crazy place and sums up the city quite nicely.

2. The church of San Francesco di Paola in the Piazza del Plebiscito. During the day youll find tourists here while in the evening kids playing football.

3. Palazzo Reale in the Piazza del Plebiscito. It is one of the four residences used by the Bourbon Kings of Naples during their rule of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies.

7. Galleria Umberto I. It was built between 1887–1891, and was the cornerstone in the decades-long rebuilding of Naples.

Vesuvius. It is located about 9 kilometres east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It is the only volcano on the European mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years, although it is not currently erupting. The two other volcanoes in Italy, Etna and Stromboli, are located on islands.
