Next up is the county of Halland.
Gåsevads castle. Built late 1700. Though the history for this place dates back 700 years. In the year 1531 was aparantly the first castle burnt down by dutch people.

I have a hard time to find good pix from other Halland castles so I will continue with the county of Småland. Located east of Halland.
Kalmar castle. has played a crucial part in Swedish history since its initial construction as a fortified tower in the 12th century. King Magnus Ladulås ordered the construction of a fortress around the tower in the 1280s, and was further expanded in the centuries that followed.
One of the most significant political events took place at Kalmar Castle in 1397, when the Kalmar Union was formed - a union of Denmark, Norway and Sweden

Lets continue to the island of Öland. Located in the baltic sea east of Småland.
Borgholm castle ruin. The history for this place dates back nearly 800 years. The ruin we can see today was built 1569-1593. Today its a popular tourist attraction but also a place for concerts during the summer.

Eketorp ringfort. The original fort was built about 1600 years ago, but what we see today was much rebuilt about 30 years ago. All with the same tecnology like they had back then at the iron age.

Johannisborg castle. Today this is the only thing that remains. Since russians burnt down the town of Norrköping 1719 where the castle was located, bricks was taken from here to rebuild some of buildings around the town.

Nyköpingshus. With the oldest parts from sometime between 1100-1200. And in the begginning it was more of a fortress. Later it was rebuilt into a castle. One of the biggest in sweden at the time. Unfortunately it got badly damaged in a fire 1665. It was never rebuilt but much of the bricks was taken here for the new royal palace in Stockholm. This is what remains today.

Stockholm royal palace is built on top of the old medievel castle called Tre Kronor (3 Crowns) Unfortunately it burnt down 1696. Still to this day its possible to visit the old dungeons of the old castle in the 3 crowns museum.

Located not far from Stockholm center is Karlberg castle. Built 1630-1639. Since 1792 it have been used as a military school. That makes it one of the oldest military schools in the world.
