David A. Leffel:

"An Artist Teaches"   книга Девида А.

David A. Leffel paints in the classic tradition of the early Dutch and Flemish such as Rembrandt and Chardin. Compositions are inspired by the human form and still lifes. The quality of light and it's relationship to the objects under observation are most important to him. Known for his visual clarity, David encourages his students to paint from life in order to perceive each subject differently from the next. Well versed in technique, he transcends method painting in order to convey dimiensionality, quality of surfaces and illumination.
Born in New York City, Leffel studied at the Parsons School of Design, Fordham University and the Art Students League on a Merit Scholarship. His work has been exhibited in numerous important group shows including Artist of America, National Academy of Western Art (winning three Gold and one Silver Medal), the First American Art Exhibit in Beijing, China and the National Academy of Design. He has written and been included in a number of books and publications. "An Artist Teaches," his current book, was released January 2004.
"Art is an expression of unity and universality, not temporal factors. It is a means of reaffirming life, of overcoming confusion..."

*He has participated in numerous prestigious exhibitions including the Artists of America exhibition at the Colorado History Museum, Denver, CO; the National Academy of Western Art exhibition at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City; the Allied Artists of America exhibitions; Hudson Valley Art Association exhibitions, and National Academy of Design art exhibitions.

"The most intimate contact artists have with their artwork are those moments when the brush is touching the surface of palette, paper or canvas.
The sensitivity of the artist is transferred from mind through the arm, hand, fingers into the brush. The responsiveness of the brush is of paramount importance in the creation of the artwork. They enable the artist to apply paint with either crisp brusque strokes or to caress it with great subtlety.
Silver Grand Prix™ brushes, which I use, fulfill the above requirement. Their firmness and suppleness are ideal. They retain their shape and quality with repeated painting and cleaning.
I also commend their beautiful balance, which makes painting for long periods of time a joy; as well as their distinctive copper ferrules. I trust you will enjoy their use as much as I do."-
David A. Leffel
