What really annoys me is my mother's persistent need to assert her superiority over everyone and everything. In her irritatingly passive-aggressive way. When she sees an obese person, she comments, "Well, that's terrible. The poor woman can hardly walk. Imagine the strain on her joints, carrying around all that extra fat. Me, I just taught myself not to overeat, yes, that's right, I'm just watching it. But some people... Like this woman from work, she can hardly climb a flight of stairs to microwave her two-pound dinner. You know, she brings a two-pound container filled with soup to the brim. And when she comes back to her office, she's so sweaty that she has to blowdry her sweat off. Ewww. I only have two cookies and a cup of tea. I never overdo it."
It's like she's so insecure that she has to demonstrate how perfect she is at the expense of those less fortunate. I find it repugnant. How is that attitude helping anyone? It is certainly doing nothing to the woman suffering from obesity.
