…The Diary…
“Mum, where’s my hair-straightener?”
“Bathroom, left draw, darling” Mr. Clarkson’s voice was heard from downstairs.
Four females; two girls and their mothers, were in the middle of their packing solution. This last night, the friends decided to spend together, to get ready for the big day.
“And my black boots?”
“It’s the summer summit, Katie. You’ll be a clown in your winter high-heels at this time!
“No I won’t!” cried out the girl.
“Yes, you will.” said Jenny’s tired but happy look.
“Ok, then I don’t need them. Finally Kate agreed and run to the wardrobe to choose tomorrow’s outfit.
An absolutely chaotic atmosphere continued until 3 o’clock in the morning. By the first minute after three everyone was worn out and setting their alarm-clocks for 7am. The girls went to sleep.
Night lulled the silence, letting all the preparations relax.
But up to now, reader still has no idea what is going on. So it’s the time to find out!
Jennifer Clarkson and Katie Stevenson, best mates in the school and the whole of Los Angeles, were to part on an unpredictable summer trip; to the capital of culture and fascinating stuff right in the middle of far Europe. Vienna was the place. They both studied German and loved adventures. Two peas in a pod. They had been together for five years with completely different characters but had a perfect friendship.
Jennifer was a crazy chick who liked having fun in all ways. She had seen a lot in her life: funky parties, pushy guys, love adventures. Strangely enough, she was a perfect student as well as a sport lover. And her looks! The partying devil with natural curly, but always straight, hair. Jennifer had green eyes and absolute an hour-glass figure. The usual Barbie but with lot’s of things in her mind. Her hyperactive character was combined with sensitive philosophical views.
While Katie was an imperious ruler and had strong opinions on everything and never agreed with others. Black-haired Kate had big ________eyes that always had something mysterious about them. She had a bad habit of __________, but after being with Jennifer for the long time, she let some brightness and happiness into her life. Kate was mid-height and had a curvy shape compared to Jenny.
They were the completely opposite of each other but got on well together. Or so it seemed?
Next morning, suitcases were packed. Girls dressed and fed. Everything was ready for the departure. The friends were desperate to start their adventure!
After they got on the plane and found their seats, their joy couldn’t be concealed. A tornado of feelings was killing their minds. It was beginning of their dream. One month in the foreign country all alone with lot’s of friends!(This trip wasn’t their first experience but every single trip they had was like a trip to wonderland.) The flight was hilarious. It felt like girls were already traveling for centuries. The hours passed so slowly, almost crawling. Jenny’s and Kate’s attention was grabbed by a TV screen that showed their traveling route. They were both waiting for the final 10 minutes of the flight. Eventually when they arrived the girls’ faces were glowing with happiness. It was like a drug affecting them. They had delighted looks and they didn’t remember a thing about how they left the plane, until the very first warm friends’ hug. But after they woke up, friends recognized the fulfillment of the dream. Everyone was here. Okan from Turkey, Hannah from Florida, Egor from Russia, Borno from Poland, Olivier from France. Every single hug, kiss or just a warm look brought the sweet memories and happy feelings. The girls had never had a better company.
The future week was full of excitement and surprises. They went out, studied the German culture and made heaps of new friends. Katie started dating a British guy, Scott. He was handsome and very funny, but absolute nutty. Kate was besotted with him and forgot about everyone else.
While with Jenny it was different as usual. Lot’s of guys were attracted to her, but Jenny’s problem came up again. She superiorly understands boys. She was always in guys companies and brought up having lot’s boy-friends. She even had some habbits and thoughts like guys do. But she was still a girl. Jenny’s problem was that she was a player herself, funnily enough. She knew what she wanted in the relationship. Her motto was ‘Friendship. Liberty. Independence. Respect. Truth.’ Jennifer liked to play with the fire. She hated being attached to someone. That’s why she wanted to keep everyone as friends. She was very serious about friends and she hated loosing them. Plus she hadn’t fallen in love for the last five years. But really the problem was inside of her. Jennifer was afraid of serious relationships. She did understand it but had no desire to believe in it. That’s why Jenny’s protection became a vital part of bronze character, the image of always smiling crazy girl. Turned her into a perfectionist with sensitive inner heart, which no one had an intention of noticing. She was tired of this ideal but she couldn’t change it. She rather didn’t want to. It became her everyday life with its barriers and victories.
So while Kate had fun with Scott, Jenny had no idea about the surprises that were coming up. But one of them happened on the first days at the camp. Someone came from behind and closed her eyes.
“Guess who?”
“No idea!”
“But if you’ll think?”
The girl was puzzled.
“Ok, I’ll no longer bore you.”
He let her go. Jenny turned immediately and saw a familiar face. She threw herself around his neck. It was David. Her old schoolmate, who now moved to Berlin. But he had lot’s of friends around the world. The only way to meet them all at the same time was by gathering in the camps. After minutes of joy, they had spent the rest of the day together talking things over.
“I have to go. It’s nearly five in the morning. Kate is going to get up in an hour time. So I better get some sleep and you too.”
“Then go. But I hope we will have time to talk once more.”
She only smiled. But when Jenny was closing the door, first time ever, she didn’t want to part from someone. These chats were a vaccine to her illness. Somehow she wasn’t scared of telling everything to David. All the struggle and hatred feelings in her heart were vanishing after talking to David. But now she was too tired to stay. The day was very busy and a lot of things happened. So she was desperate to travel into her dream world. But this girl was sure that these long talks will repeat. So as soon Jenny touched the bed, she was asleep. With the calm heart she slept brilliantly as if angels were guarding her peace.
After this night Jennifer spent a lot of time talking to David. It seemed as if they became best mates. Now the girl was no longer alone. Well, she never was, lots of people around her, but with David she kept tranquil inside. So nothing disturbed Jenny’s mind and the next three weeks flew past unnoticeable. They studied, explored the town, crushed the shops, partied, danced and partied again. But there was one more thing to happen.
It was David’s seventeen’s birthday. The whole camp was getting ready for the huge night out. All the girls in the bathrooms were doing the last preparations to look absolutely gorgeous, while guys were worried about the hairstyles and the outfit. The two best mates weren’t an exception. Like everyone, they were rushing up and down in search for mascaras, lipsticks and eye shadows. But when they finally found everything and got ready to turn into princesses, they felt someone’s eyes glued to them.
It was a British band as everyone called them. The english ladies absolutely detested the American stars. It all started after Kate and Jenny arrived and lot’s of people from various groups joined them. So the British girls had lot quite a bit of friends. Of course, it was not Kate’s nor Jenny’s fault, but the fronts were set. Hannah, Melanie, Liz and Angel were on one side and innocent Kate and Jenny on the other. No, the picture wasn’t that bad the only thing was that those four didn’t join whole lot when going on the outings.
But tonight two English leaders were leaving the camp and Liz and Hannah were left on their own. So the look that our girls felt while preparing for the night, was Liz’s and Hannah’s. But Jenny didn’t care and her Friends.L.I.R.T. alert came up.
“Aren’t you coming out tonight? It’ David’s birthday!”
Girls were slightly shocked but didn’t loose their words. Hannah was older and braver than Liz so she responded. “I have no money left plus no one invited us.”
“Strange, I thought the whole camp was going?!” Kate joined in too. “But anyway, I don’t think David will mind…”
Jenny interrupted her.
“So you come too.” “Get ready for the best night. But be quick ‘cause no one will wait!” Jen and Kate marched along rhythmically.
All four of them laughed.
“But the money…” just started Hannah.
“Girl don’t worry. We gonna pay for you. It’s not a big deal.”
Liz and Hannah ran away in excitement.
In half an hour the Fantastic Four was ready. The girls were stunning. No one saw so many glamorous divas on the same night. Guys were amazed by the variety of princesses and not a single one was alike someone else.
Jen was right. It was the best night ever! Everyone was up to something. Kate had a hilarious time with Scott. David was surrounded by the hottest girls of the camp in their glossy tops and tight miniskirts. Liz was dancing on the tables along the latest music tracks. While Jen and Hannah were swapping the dancing partners. The party was terrific and by the end of the night the girls felt dizzy of too much dancing.
Eventually by 2 o’clock in the morning everyone got back to camp. Half of the people were so fascinated and tired that they immediately went to sleep. But the rest of them stayed outside, in the park. Couples were kissing and hugging, guys lied on the grass trying not to go asleep but our girls continued ruling the ball. Liz was fighting with some Spanish machos. Kate curled into Scott’s sweet hugs. But Hannah and Jen were quiet in the corner. They talked and talked; both sharing their thoughts and their feelings. Hannah was ready to open her heart and Jennifer discussed her inner world of the frantic feelings as if girls knew each other long before their birth. While time flashed in front of them, by the deep night when nearly everyone around was sobbing in the lulling sleep. The new friends stood up at once. They were ought to be packing their suitcases instead of enjoying the warm breeze. So not waiting for more minutes to pass by they parted to welcome the last daylight in the camp.
The monstrous tiring steps ruined the tranquil air when Jennifer was walking along the dreaming corridor. She was not yet sure what had happened to her, so fully incomprehensive of what she was doing she packed automatically. How strange it was that her suitcases were erupting of the utmost weight. All the bags and the available suitcases were full. Eventually everything somehow fit in but still Jennifer knew that there was not enough space for everything: her darling memories, her new friends and all the nice time spent in Austria. But she was incredibly tired and was prepared to get some sort of sleep until the unbearable tomorrow morning. The lights were off and the silent aura cast its charms.
A lot of fidgeting thoughts were filling Jennifer’s head that night and her sleep got completely spoiled of the constant worries. She was afraid of the future infinity, she did not know what was prepared for her. This always broke her balance. Not standing such torments she woke up and was the first one in the camp. This gave her some time to calm herself down and think things over. What was going to happen next? Jen was just to find out when Hannah interrupted her. Anyone else would suffer under Jennifer’s moans but Hannah’s entry was a relief instead. They shared their sufferings, which were alike, until the rest of their company was up.
Steve was the first one to go. Setting off to cold Norway he gave out the last kisses and the warm hugs. In a short while the black BMW left the camp’s grounds. In the next hour the same scenario repeated rapidly. Every fifteen minutes the cab filled with passengers and headed it’s own way.
When finally their time came. It was six of them. Carlo from Spain, Nick from Greece and four inseparable friends. Jennifer could remember her very last action months later. The last photo, the friendly embracement and the final and only passionate kiss on David’s cheek. These last days both of them did not drop a syllable. That torn Jen’s heart into pieces. The Great Wall of China stabled between the two friends. Though none of them would break the ice. Jennifer found more sensible to leave everything as it was. And she got into the car. The Fantastic Four reached it’s final destination.
The journey was furious; the time was desperate to separate the friends. Only entering Vienna’s Airport when shock took over Jen for it was like a horrible nightmare. She was not ready to part Hannah, like lovers that will never see each other. It was only week’s later when she fully understood that Hannah was the person she long waited for; the best friend that was so much desired. But at that time everything was in the gloomy haze and only the very final phrase “Actilingua Aussteigen” was vivid as ever…
The roaring sound of the engines was finally dying , while passengers begun to loose control and wait no longer. Everyone was happy of finally reaching the glamorous lands of the monstrous superpower. Most of the foreign faces were German, only a few were simply back home. But neither of these applied to the two strangers, girls merely 16, who had been sobbing and sighing through the whole flight.
Jennyfer and Katie were back to their common life under Hollywood’s sun. The school started in a month so they had some time to get used to the monotonous routine in glittering Los Angeles. The summer of joy and unforgettable adventures was still maintaining girls’ minds. But the past was over and the high school students concluded to spend the rest of their day relaxing on the honey sands of the beach. Still in the delighting shock, Jennifer and Katie were soon in the mirror-like waters of the infinite ocean. Almost growing younger in age, like in the childhood, girls started splashing and playing the marine wars, when two athletes joined them.
“James!”
“Alex!”
“Wow, six-peck! Bet you are some sport freaks?” shouted Jenny. She did not want to offend anyone, but the words escaped accidentally from her lips.
“She didn’t mean it.” Automatically excused Kate.
“Doesn’t matter, we know what you mean. We neither like ‘muscular bears’ , who have nothing but only flesh.” Alex softened the silent pause.
“No, it’s just we work out a lot, before the school year.”
Jennyfer began her sick speech, when Kate interrupted her. She knew something wrong was going to happened, so started the dialogue about entertainment. When suddenly Alex erupted.
“Why don’t we meet somewhere else? Like a club?”
“El Dorado! Does it fit?” James became more enthusiastic.
The two friends were staring at the girls. Not discussing it with Jennyfer, Kate suddenly agreed and stated the time, which was tomorrow night at ten p.m. Jen was astonished, but she knew Kate was keeping it right, as to otherwise she would turn out an embarrassing idiot in front of the strangers. She knew something wrong was happening inside of her. Nothing like that happened before, but Jennyfer knew not how to control it. The girl was awaken by Katie’s loud voice. She tried to quarrel but unusually Jen admitted everything. She tried to explain Kate what has happened, but stopped at the right time. Though the girls were known as the best friends, they hardly ever shared their secrets and real feelings. Kate never did it and Jennyfer was not prepared to do it, as she never felt the Kate was the right person. But the friends tried to forget everything immediately and had nothing to do but enjoy the glittering sand and the firing sun.
The next day continued in the same euphoria for Katie but in the complete disbalance for Jenny, but the meeting was already stated and could not be canceled. One of the simplest reasons was that Kate’ admiration for Alex was unrevealing. The furious preparations began; lipsticks, eye-shadows, mascaras and the rest of the magic set were flying across the room.
“Jen, I think I better change that top! It turns me into the wobbly Santa Claus.”
“For God’s sake, Kate! You already did it five times during the last half an hour. Why don’t you go naked? That will attract everyone, not just Alex.”
“Shut up. You can’t even give a proper advice. You are useless!”
“Assume it’s an original way of thanking people.”
“Soz. What’s wrong with you?”
Katie was right, Jennyfer was wrong but how no one knew.
“Ignore me. I’m just not in the mood.» was Jennyfer’s automatic reply.
The rest of the evening was spent in the chaotic atmosphere. Kate only calmed down when her eyes met Alex’s on the horizon. While James and Jenny were left at the side starring nowhere. The Club and the music, all were so common and undesired for Jennyfer, that she spent nearly all her time on the rough sofa, trying to analyse. This was very unusual. The partying diva was as gloomy the night. Suddenly all the usual enjoyments lost sense for her. She was empty inside, as if some part of her heart was torn away. But all her dreams were interrupted when James interfered. His first words were, “I see you are not a clubbing lover, like me?”
This automatically built a barrier that stated James’ and Jenny’s difference. Unfortunately she was forced to talk to him just in the matter of curtsey. For the start she smiled and mumbled something about her tired mood, which she explained by a long journey After that various sort of questions were bombarding Jennyfer. She actually liked it; without any notice, she was steadily getting hyper-enthusiastic, when suddenly James interrupted her.
“I like you!» he almost shot the girl. She didn’t know what to do so just continued her long story. In a minute she the phrase was repeated.
“No you didn’t understand me. I like you.”
Jennyfer was silent when James came closer and pressed his cold lips against Jenny’s corals. While snoging J got more and more disgusted. She knew it was not right, without any sense she was far, very far. Not prepared to bare it any longer, she aggressively stood up and threw herself to the door. J took a nervous glance across the bar, made sure Kate was fine and ran away in agony. Through the tranquil night she almost galloped the way trough. Jennyfer wanted to cry; tears were filling her eyes but she could not. She rarely whined and only if she did about stupid things. All the serious matters were always in side of her; fighting herself and killing the soul. This was due to the absence of the real friend, that second half of her heart, which she lost.
Nevertheless she was pounding solemn on the boulevards of the dynamic city. Steadily her heart turned into the granite and nothing invaded her. J was almost insane when she finally got back home. For her luck the house was sole less, so she got to speak to her own.
