Вчерашнюю историю языка решила почтить отдельным постом. В билете было три вопроса - 1 отвечался письменно, два - устно.

Из устного порадовало только:
(вопрос) How do we call the Scandinavian invaders who came BEFORE Normans? - (ответ) Normans?

А вот из письменных (грамматические ошибки и спеллинг сохранены):
В отличии от прошлого года, когда была атака на Беовульфа, в этом году больше всех пострадал Чоссер.
Его писали Choeser, Chouser, и даже Chosser.
Дальше были слова типа: monophongiration и appromixitelly.
Один гений придумал long consonants. (наверное, типа р-р-р-р )

А вот что это за мысль, я вообще затрудняюсь сказать:
- It were consists with that the language in ME so expressed.

Дальше стало понятнее:
- Northern England, Scotland and Yells (видимо, Wales)
- the total loss of consonants in ME word structure (ото ж разговаривали одними гласными!)
- Old English was found in 500 years and came to the end in 1110
- BeoFulf one of the most popular poems in our time (ага, на ночь все читаем детям)
- Language is very difficult system becouse there is a lot of things which poeple couldn't understand and explain. (!!!)
- background of standard English (что это такое, я не знаю, но хорошо, что не underground)
- (вопрос) Define the "forefathers" of English - (начало ответа) we have to be thankful to OUR fathers for thier contribution to the English l-ge.
- ... Scandinavians, Normans, Wikings... (именно так, через W)
- Works was printed on Latin because this l-ge was easier to understand to the people than English.
- Shakespeare invented some grammatical changes in English. (ага, однажды на досуге....)
- There were two situations when the word can have two stresses in the sentence - one of them is chief. (дело в том, что chief - кличка нашего завкафа. Получилось, что при нем слова аж ударение меняют...)
- English grammar has a lot of borrowings...
- English has a lot of beginers in the development of a l-ge: Beowulf, Choeser... (что за бегиннеры и как к ним относятся Беовульф и этот Чузер, выяснить не удалось)
- Among the Latin borriwings to OLD ENGLISH are MEDICAL TERMS and words in MICRO and MACRO TECH.
- Development of every l-ge is an ever-long process, but linguistic changes are slow. (тормоза мы, господа!)
- Long vowels became shorter. (чуть-чуть)
- New English was a period of launching it (NE) into Middle Ages...
- ... new words were loaned and the grammar structure was changed a little bit... (опять чуть-чуть)
- The first tribes to speak ENGLISH were CELTS.
- ... the monuments to English... (помянем...)
- Kenntish is a l-ge of Youth... (это Jutes)
- There are several words which were in the l-ge. (!!!) (так, пара-тройка слов - им хватало...)
- The late celtic native speaker dead in 1777 (!!!) (а теперь переведите это на наш язык!)
- In Middle English period were more educated people and appeared new words - e.g. NUCLEAR POWER

И фавориты:
(слова poem в тексте ответа не было - только представьте этот некро-изврат)
- There was probably several pieces of Beowulf (!!!) ... some parts of Beowulf were partly crumbled...
И: - ... then Sexy Angles came to Britain ... (о чем думали???)
