SUMMERS FAMILY TREE
Author : Peter Luzifer Last Modified : Feb 18, 2002
Listed in this family tree are only characters of the Summers family and their offspring. Characters from alternate universes are only included when they crossed over to the mainstream Marvel Universe.
In the year 1859, Oscar was part of a group of marauders, who kidnapped ugly, disfigured or otherwise strange people to sell them to a scientist by the name of Nathaniel Essex, who experimented on them. One of them was a boy named Daniel who had stopped talking after his parents had died. The timetraveling Summers couple arrived, though to late to stop Apocalypse from transforming Essex into Mr. Sinister, they thwarted their plan to conquer the United Kingdom and their alliance was disbanded. Freed from Essex?influence, Oscar and Daniel journeyed to America to start a new life. At the immigration office they claimed to be father and son by the name of Summers, inspired by the married couple that had saved them from their fates. Gambit too once timetraveled to the 19th century. In New York city of the year 1891 he met Amanda Mueller, a woman accused of being the lack womb?killer, as she had experienced various miscarriages. Her obstetrician was none other than Dr. Milbury, a cover identity for Mr. Sinister. In Mueller house Gambit saw the wedding picture of Amanda and Daniel. She said that her husband had left her with their only surviving son, as he couldn handle the many rumours and accusations. [Gambit (3rd series) #13]
The mysteries around Mueller are far from solved. After World War II she was part of a governmental research project aquiring mutant data, along with Kurt Marko and Irene Adler (Destiny). Circa around the same time, despite her age, she gave birth to Gloria Dayne, who now in her late fourties, early fifties calls herself Fontanelle. [X-Men Forever #5, Gambit (3rd series) #20]
The reasons for the so called hird Summers brother?being Adam X, the X-Treme, can be found in the article about that storyline [Link]
The attraction between Franklin Richards and Rachel Summers was already seen in the Days of Future Past timeline. In a so far unnamed alternate future Rachel and Franklin married and had a child, Johnathan Reed Richards, who would grow up to become Hyperstorm. He timetraveled to bother the World Premier Superhero Team in Fantastic Four (1st series) #406-409, his heritage was revealed in #414.
The alternate universe in the Mutant X series revealed more possible offspring of Grey and Summers genes. In fact there are now children for every possible pairing of Jean, Havok, Cyclops and Madelyne.
Rachel Summers is from an alternate future called Days of Future Past, she herself consideres Scott and Jean her parents, yet there have been clues that she also could be Logan daughter, and it was never fully revealed if her mother really was Jean or the Phoenix posing as Jean.
In the Age of Apocalypse, Mr. Sinister used DNA samples of Scott Summers and Jean Grey to create the ultimate weapon against Apocalypse. This tube-grown X-Man, later escaped and adopted the name Nate Grey.
In the Mutant X Universe, something similar was done, only here Havok DNA had to be used as Scott Summers was not available (Scott was captured along his parents by the Shir, when he was still a boy). Under Sinister order Gambit and Bloodstorm liberated the two subjects from Apocalypse base, but as Sinister only wanted the boy, Gambit kept the girl and she was raised as the adoptive daughter Raven of him and his wife Belladonna. Sinister accelerated the boy growth and dubbed him X-Man, whom he later used as weapon against his foes. It possible that X-Man was later given some DNA traits from Cyclops, as Sinister captures both Summers brothers after Scott returned to earth and takes something from them to complete an experiment he started long ago.
Little Scotty is the natural born son of Havok and his wife Madelyne Pryor. He is apparently named after Alex older (and then missing) brother Scott.
