telika, even I do remember that "French" and "Swedish" are used without the definite article unless you say "the French language" and "the Swedish language". I didn't get what you were trying to say with "even if it's just a bit" though I have one conjecture that it's a calque from Russian. And don't even try to find excuses for yourself. Such mistakes cannot be forgiven.
